Appleが発売を開始した、フルHDに対応の「Apple TV (3rd generation)」を購入してチェックしてみました。

iLoungeレビューを見ると、Apple TV (3rd generation)の外箱はApple TV (2nd generation)と同じ大きさなのですが、日本で発売されたApple TV (3rd generation)は外箱が大きくなっています。

実際にApple TV (3rd generation)とApple TV (2nd generation)の外箱を比べてみると、箱が大きいことが確認出来ます。

私が持っているApple TV (2nd generation)はアメリカ製で、元々日本のApple TV (2nd generation)の外箱は大きくなっていました。

大きくなった箱は底が深くなっているだけで、同梱されている物は以前と同じです。

なぜ箱が大きいのかとても不思議です。

Apple TV本体の外観などは以前とまったく同じです。

Apple TV (3rd generation)は、Apple TV (2nd generation)のA4プロセッサと異なり、シングルCoreのA5プロセッサが採用されています。

Apple TV (3rd generation)は、最初からApple TV アップデート 5.0（build 4099）がインストールされていて、新しいUIで起動します。

利用出来るサービスなどは、Apple TV アップデート 5.0を適用したApple TV (2nd generation)と同じでした。

唯一の違いと言えば、設定＞オーディオとビデオ＞TV解像度で、1080p HD（60Hz or 50Hz）が選択出来るようになっていることです。

iTunes MovieがフルHDに対応した作品に変わったことで画質的には以前よりもアップしていると思います。

なお、液晶テレビ側がフルHD対応でないとApple TV (3rd generation)の性能は生かしきれません。

I bought and tried new Apple TV (3rd generation) today[fig 1].

Package box for this new Apple TV for Japanese Market is bigger than for United States [fig 2] with comparing by looking iLounge review.

This bigger package does not contain additional equipment but "AIR" filling this additional space[fig 3]. I wonder what this space had designed for?

Outer case design of new Apple TV (3rd) is same with 2nd generation, inside spec changes single core A5 from A4.

Apple TV's pre-set OS is latest updated Apple TV Update 5.0 (build 4099), then customer can use new Apple TV interface from first start-up.

Service menu seems same with old Apple TV (2nd) exempt one thing, which is resolution.

Settings > Audio and Video > TV resolution has 1080p HD (60Hz or 50Hz) option for new Apple TV.
